This clever writer and bead artist, Rachel Nelson-Smith, combines her expertise in beading jazz in a very refreshing book full of detailed instructions, well executed examples and a number of fine pieces in the gallery showing work by different bead artists.
These projects are specific to increasing your skills using two foundation forms of off loom beading: the Peyote Stitch and Right Angle Weave. Nelson-Smith gives good illustrations on the foundations of these two forms and then shows the many different ways they can be used and combined.
The necklace is a good example of combining different stitches to create a very elegant product.
I have always loved the wonderful crystal rivolis and wanted to use them. The author shows several different applications with directions. This bracelet was one that I liked best.
The artist also shows her designs in different color ways which really helps point up how much can be changed with a simple color shift. the photo of the bracelets is a good example. Notice that you can change the sizes as well.

This book is a wonderful example that shows how a simple stitch can be used to make some very creative and beautiful jewelry. It will go on my 'to-buy' list. Great review.

Nancy - thank you for this review. I know just who I want to have this book. My BFF who has Parkinson's. Through a miracle, the one activity she is able to manage is beading. She spends her days and nights at her bead table. She pours through magazines and books for inspiration and tips.
ReplyDeleteLooks like another excellent book by Rachel. Can't wait to feast my eyes on this puppy!

I've always held off on beading because I'm afraid that I will want every bead ever made......I really do and all the books that go with those beads. Thanks for offering this chance!
ReplyDeleteNancy I did not know you were also a beadaholic. I also have that disease and would love to have a copy of this book.
